ASMITA stands for Awareness in Sanitation and Menstrual Hygiene for Adolescents.
It is a government scheme launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in collaboration with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Ministry of Women & Child Development. Launched in 2017 under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao umbrella and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan
It aims to raise awareness among adolescent girls about menstrual hygiene; promote the use and availability of sanitary napkins; create a convergent platform for adolescent health and empowerment programs.
Objectives:
1.Enhance menstrual hygiene awareness among adolescent girls
2.Ensure regular availability of low-cost sanitary pads to girls
3.Reduce school dropout rates due to menstrual issues
4.Promote dignity, health and empowerment of adolescent girls.
