What is the duration of the UPSC Personality Test (interview)?
The UPSC Personality Test, also known as the interview, is the final stage of the Civil
Services Examination. The duration of the interview typically ranges from 30 minutes to
40 minutes per candidate. During this time, a board of UPSC members engages the
candidate in a face-to-face discussion. The panel aims to assess the candidate’s
personality traits, communication skills, leadership qualities, mental alertness, and
general awareness. The interview is not merely an assessment of academic knowledge
but also an evaluation of the candidate’s suitability for a career in the civil services. The
questions asked during the interview cover a wide range of topics, including the
candidate’s background, opinions on societal issues, current affairs, and situational
scenarios. The objective of the interview is to understand the candidate’s thought
process, decision-making abilities, and depth of understanding of various subjects.
Candidates are advised to be confident, composed, and articulate while responding to
the questions asked during the interview.
