It is a portmanteau of Brahmaputra River (India) and Moskva River (Russia). It is a joint venture developed by BrahMos Aerospace, a joint venture between DRDO and NPO Mashinostroyeniya, Russia. It is a supersonic cruise missile. It is fire and forget type-once launched, it autonomously hits its target. It has speed of Mach 2.8 to Mach 3.0. It is originally 290 km range, but it is upgraded to reach more than 400km. It is land-based, air-launched, ship-launched, submarine-launched. It is inducted into Indian Army since 2007. It is deployed into Indian Navy on destroyers and frigates like INS Rajput, INS Kolkata Class. and integrated with Indian Air Force planes such as Su-30MKI fighters.
