International Museum Day-2023

International Museum Day is celebrated annually on May 18th. The event was developed to promote the study and preservation of the world’s natural and cultural heritage.

What is International Museum Day?

The International Council of Museums (ICOM) organizes International Museum Day. Although it officially began in 1977, it can be traced back to a gathering dubbed the Crusade for Museums in 1951.

Each year, the participating museums organize activities and exhibitions centred on a specific theme. The theme for 2023 is ‘The Future of Museums: Recover and Imagine,’ which is inspired by global changes over the last year. The theme allows people to visualize future museums and respond to current concerns.

The festival is a yearly celebration of museums that aims to highlight the importance of museums in society. The yearly exhibitions strive to increase public attendance and appreciation of museums through engaging and creative activities. It also provides a platform for museums to raise awareness about any issues or themes that they consider important.

For the first time, IMD was commemorated 40 years ago. An increasing number of museums around the world are celebrating International Museum Day.
