Established in 1965, has headquarters at New Delhi. It is registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies act, 2002. It is under the administrative control of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. It operates through 26 branch offices across India.
Objectives:
1.Facilitates the voluntary formation and democratic functioning of consumer cooperatives based on self-reliance and mutual aid.
2.Provide supply support to consumer cooperatives and other distribution agencies for consumer goods at reasonable and affordable rates
3.Render technical guidance and assistance to consumer cooperatives
Functions:
1.Procure, Store, Process and Distribute consumer goods to ensure availability at reasonable prices
2.Participate in market interventions to stabilize prices of essential commodities
3.Enhance market penetration and growth of member cooperatives through best practices and technology adoption.
