In 1591, Sultan Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah constructed it. According to a common misconception, Charminar was constructed to commemorate the eradication of the plague, which had severely impacted the entire city at the time. The monument incorporates Persian architectural elements and represents the four cardinal directions with its four magnificent arches and minarets. Charminar was created by Iranian architect Mir Momin Astrawadi, who had made Hyderabad his home. The four caliphs are symbolized by the four pillars surrounding Charminar. The height of these minars or pillars is 48.7 meters. Each of the four floors is separated by elaborately carved rings that encircle it. A mosque that is thought to be the oldest in Hyderabad is located on the top level of Charminar.
