The international agreement that prohibits antipersonnel landmines includes the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines as well as on their destruction. It is commonly known as the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Treaty or the Ottawa Convention. The Diplomatic Conference on an International Total Ban on Anti-Personnel Land Mines in Oslo in 1997 brought it to a close. Anti-personnel and anti-vehicle mines are the two main types of landmines. Both have resulted in immense misery, and even after wars have stopped, they still kill and wound civilians and onlookers. The Ottawa Convention prohibits anti-personnel mines.
