What is the training process for IFS officers?

The training process for Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officers is a rigorous and multi-stage program. After successfully clearing the UPSC examination and selection, candidates undergo foundational training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie. This phase focuses on the basics of civil service. Subsequently, IFS probationers undergo specialized training at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) in New Delhi, where they learn about diplomacy, international relations, and foreign policy. They also undergo language training in languages relevant to their assigned foreign posts. The final stage involves practical training through postings at Indian embassies and consulates abroad. This comprehensive training equips IFS officers with the skills and knowledge needed for their diplomatic roles.
