When the same optional is chosen for the prelims & Mains, there is no need of preparing for mains?

That is not true, but 90% of the preliminary syllabus is included in the mains. Different approach is required. Prelims demands a micro approach requiring close acquaintance. Whereas in maains you require a broad approach and perspective.
